Cattle Insurance

Scope

This insurance policy provides comprehensive coverage for various categories of cattle, including milch cows and buffaloes, calves/heifers, stud bulls, bullocks (castrated bulls) and castrated male buffaloes. It applies to indigenous, exotic and cross-bred animals and offers coverage based on the market value of the insured cattle at the insurable age specified in the policy.

Coverage Offered

Basic Cover: The insurance provides compensation in the event of the death of insured cattle due to:

  1. Accidents, including natural calamities such as fire, lightning, flood, storm, cyclone, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, tempest and famine.
  2. Diseases that occur or are contracted during the policy period.
  3. Surgical operations.
  4. Damage or loss resulting from riots and strikes.

Add-On Covers (Optional with Additional Premium):

A. Permanent Total Disablement (PTD):

  1. For Milch Cattle: If the animal becomes permanently incapable of yielding milk or conceiving.
  2. For Stud Bulls: If the animal loses the ability to breed permanently.
  3. For Bullocks and Castrated Male Buffaloes: If the animal becomes permanently unfit for the purpose stated in the proposal.

B. Transit Cover: This add-on covers the insured animal during transportation beyond 80 kilometres from its current location, upon payment of an extra premium.

Exclusions

Common Exclusions:

  1. Any wilful or malicious injury, overloading, negligent or unskilled treatment or use of animals for purposes not declared in the policy.
  2. Pre-existing conditions or accidents occurring before the policy starts.
  3. Intentional slaughter unless ordered by law or a qualified veterinarian for humane reasons.
  4. Theft or secret sale of the insured animal.
  5. Loss or damage due to war, rebellion, riots or nuclear-related risks.
  6. Loss due to air or sea transport.
  7. Consequential losses of any nature.
  8. Claims due to diseases contracted within 15 days from the start of the policy period.

Specific Exclusions:

  1. Pleuropneumonia claims for cattle located in Lakhimpur and Sivasagar districts of Assam, including newly formed districts from these areas.
  2. Claims without the animal’s Ear Tag. The rule “No Tag, No Claim” strictly applies.
Claim Procedure

In the unfortunate event of the animal’s death, the insured must promptly inform the insurance company. The following documents must be submitted for claim processing:

  1. Duly completed claim form.
  2. Death certificate issued by a qualified veterinarian (in the company’s prescribed format).
  3. Post-mortem examination report.
